Entrance Section

Most of the level is driven in hard rock, the level is arched at the entrance as it passes through the topsoil and under the track, after this it passes in the Gritsone as shown here. The miners pickmarks are clearly visible on the walls as this was driven in the days before explosives. Before the vein is reached, the level passes into Limestone. there are 3 section on the level where the rock is soft, composed of shales, and here timbering is necessary.
